Since I posted this article, several of you have emailed and asked where to get certified in NLP and hypnosis. The company I recommend most is The Empowerment Partnership. Check them out at www.nlp.com.

You are so right Liz - If we don't like who we are, the results we are getting or the way we feel, then we are still carrying the bagage from the dissapointments of our past. The negetive experiences in our lives can begin to define WHO we ARE. In effect, we have been PROGRAMED to believe a lie, and carry the mind set of: "Oh well, I guess this is just the way I am... might as well get used to it." It makes sense that if we don't like our life the way it is, we must CHANGE the way we THINK about ourselves. Change must be intentional. We have to want it because it takes work.

Good article, Liz. Nice breakdown of the fundamentals of NLP. I've been in and around various NLP programs - Rex Steven Sykes; also studied a couple of Bandler and Grinder's books. But never have been able to make it stick. Glad to have your fresh perspective.

Now, for some reason, I'm compelled to go get a cold beer....

Good point. The image is more of a visual representation of an idea, as in,
there is power generated when a man flexes his muscles. There is also power
generated anytime a man flexes any kind of masculinity. That's the
point--you don't need to physically possess those muscles in order to send
out that kind of powerful vibe.

Just a comment, in your post you talk about masculinity being a certain mental state, but the accompanying picture is a huge ripped guy flexing his muscles. It's a small point, but could put off some guys [like me] that don't look like that.

Yes, and that is a whole other topic of masculinity. There are, however,
very few situations in which a man (or woman) would need to use aggression
instead of assertion.

Aggression has its place and is not always an indication of insecurity. Imagine a physical attack as one example.

Ronny,

I'm looking into the writings of Sun Tzu now, actually, and some of what he
says relates to the study of pick-up in a really cool, interesting way. I'll
keep you posted...
